Mobile Architect / Team Lead (React Native)
On behalf of our client, a mission-driven U.S. startup, we are seeking a Mobile Architect / Team Lead to join their growing engineering team.
About the Client:
This startup is building a platform that helps students form real-life friendships in the digital age. Believing that the best conversations happen face-to-face, they’re creating a low-pressure and fun way for students to meet—starting with a simple walk. With a team that blends technology, mental health advocacy, and a genuine passion for connection, the company is operating at the intersection of tech, wellness, and human impact.
About the Role:
As Mobile Architect / Team Lead, you’ll take ownership of the mobile codebase, architecture, and front-end development standards. You’ll lead development efforts using React Native, Expo, and TypeScript, working closely with the CTO and executive team to align engineering execution with product and business goals. This role combines high-level architectural thinking, strong hands-on coding skills, and strategic cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities:
- Architect, design, and lead the development of the company’s mobile apps using React Native, Expo, and TypeScript.
- Own the full app lifecycle—from project setup to release and ongoing maintenance in both the App Store and Google Play.
- Collaborate with the CTO to establish and enforce scalable code architecture and development standards.
- Partner with product and executive leadership to scope features, estimate timelines, and manage technical risk.
- Help drive roadmap execution, resourcing decisions, and overall mobile team strategy.
- Develop and maintain real-time, location-based, and social features using Firebase, WebSockets, and push notifications.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines, OTA updates, and testing automation using EAS, Firebase, and GitHub Actions.
- Mentor and support other developers through code reviews, onboarding, and technical guidance.
- Communicate clearly and confidently with executive stakeholders, presenting progress updates, technical challenges, and proposed solutions.
- Maintain exceptional standards for performance, UX quality, and proactive error handling.
Requirements:
- 6–8+ years of professional experience in mobile development, with a strong focus on React Native, Expo, and TypeScript.
- Proven track record of shipping and maintaining high-quality apps on both iOS and Android.
- Strong understanding of mobile architecture, performance tuning, and debugging best practices.
- Excellent communication skills, with fluency in English and confidence presenting technical information visually (diagrams, walkthroughs, etc.).
- Experience collaborating with executives and cross-functional teams to estimate, plan, and prioritize feature development.
- Solid hands-on experience with Firebase, WebSockets, push notifications, and mobile analytics.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, OTA deployments, and ensuring production stability.
- Bonus: Experience with native development (Swift/Kotlin), Appium, or working closely with backend teams.
- Self-starter with high attention to detail and a passion for building purposeful, scalable products.
Tech Stack:
- Mobile: React Native, TypeScript, Expo, EAS, Firebase.
- Web: React (for dashboards and internal tools).
- Backend: Node.js, MongoDB, WebSockets, Firebase, Axios.
- DevOps / QA: GitHub Actions, Cloudflare, Swagger, Postman, Appium (plus).
- Tools: Xcode, Android Studio, Apple App Store Connect, Google Play Console, Figma, Slack, Notion.
Why You’ll Love This Role:
- Be a technical leader at a purpose-driven startup reshaping how students connect IRL.
- Work directly with executive leadership and play a key role in defining the product’s future.
- Join a fast-moving team that values clean architecture, creative thinking, and thoughtful code.
- Enjoy remote work with flexibility and autonomy.
