About the Role:

As a Mid-Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll play a key role in scaling backend systems as the product expands across college campuses nationwide. You’ll collaborate closely with product, frontend, and mobile teams to build reliable, scalable, and secure systems that power both the mobile and responsive web experiences.

Responsibilities:

• Architect, build, and maintain backend services using Node.js, TypeScript, MongoDB, and Redis.
• Develop real-time features such as chat, live events, and GPS tracking using WebSockets, Firebase, and Expo.
• Implement push notifications, chat infrastructure, and location-based services.
• Containerize services with Docker and manage environments in Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Handle file storage and media delivery via AWS S3.
• Write clean, testable, well-documented code and contribute to backend architecture decisions.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and collaborate on QA processes (experience with Appium is a plus).
• Work closely with design, product, and mobile teams to ensure seamless user experiences.

Requirements:

• 3–6+ years of backend development experience (startup or fast-paced environments preferred).
• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js, TypeScript, MongoDB, Redis, and WebSockets.
• Familiarity with Firebase, Expo, and EAS for chat, GPS, and push notifications.
• Proficiency with Docker and container orchestration.
• Experience deploying and maintaining services on GCP.
• Knowledge of AWS S3 for media storage and delivery.
• Deep understanding of API design, system security, scalability, and performance optimization.
• Bonus: Experience with Appium, QA automation, and modern DevOps practices.
• Proactive team player with a mission-driven mindset.
